Stuff People Say to Women Riders
Found this on BikerChickNews in the Blowing a Gasket category: "Rules for talking to women bikers", as in, Looking for a sure way to make a fool out of yourself? Go ahead, just ask:
"Did you ride that bike here all by yourself?"
"Is that a girl's bike?"
"Do you wear a leather thong?"
"Is that the biggest thing you can get between your legs?" (very snappy comeback in the original article)
"Do you own your own bike?"
"Are you having a mid-life crisis?"
"Wow, that's a big bike for an itty-bitty little girl like you."

I get the typical stuff most women get. But I get a few extra "gifts" most from men. Such as, "I don't see any black women riding a motorcycle by herself." Three of my favorites: "I've never seen a woman with a face like yours riding a motorcycle." And, "We don't get many people up here (or "down here"--fill in the locational space)who look like you. Finally, "I ain't never seen a black woman riding a BMW?"
These comments are usually followed by a slight reddening to the face and stammering.
Sojourner, at least some of these people realize their gaffe. For all the crazy comments you get, I'm sure you also see wistful looks from many women. I know for a fact that when women see other women riders, the idea sometimes becomes a reality.
I think you're e correct about some women. I'm amazed that I have had many many conversation with older women (say in their 70s and 80s) who give me the thumbs up and engage me in conversations about riding. Some of my fondest memories are of having such women tell me what they would do if they could do it all over again.
Little girls are also a favorite, especially when dads and/or moms bring their daughters up to talk to me.
